To have the best opportunity in a short and comfortable recovery period, proper post-operative care is extremely important. Here are some tips to help you with your recovery.

Avoid vigorous activity after rhinoplasty.

For at least the first four weeks after the rhinoplasty procedure, it is important to avoid exercise. This includes lifting weights, running, and doing aerobics, as well as putting pressure on bending, pulling, and pushing.

After the fourth week, it’s usually safe to return to your regular exercise routine. However, swimming for six weeks should be avoided.

Don’t blow your nose

Because the nasal area is extremely sensitive during the first few weeks after rhinoplasty, you should avoid smelling or blowing your nose excessively. Trying to breathe through your mouth, or sneezing with your mouth open, can help relieve pressure on your nose.

Don’t compare the results

It is important to understand that no two rhinoplasty results are the same. Comparing your results with those of other people, especially before you have completely healed, is generally not a good idea.

Discussing realistic expectations with your surgeon before your nose surgery is the best way to avoid surprises or disappointments afterward.

Address any issues that arise

If something is wrong with your recovery or is taking longer than expected, don’t hesitate to contact your surgeon for a follow-up.

Avoid chewing excessively

Although this may sound strange, eating foods that require less effort to chew can help to heal.

Avoid Smoking and Alcohol

Since smoking can hinder the healing process, it is recommended to avoid it during the first four weeks after the intervention.

Alcohol also presents an increased risk of excessive bleeding and should be avoided for the first few weeks. Additionally, alcohol can also interfere with medications that have been prescribed by your surgeon.

Do not clean the inside of the nose.

Some bleeding and runny nose is normal within the first few days or weeks after the procedure. However, you must follow your surgeon’s instructions for cleaning.

Avoid cleaning the inside of the nose with a disposable swab or tissue. However, it is recommended to clean the nasal margin.

Avoid wearing T-shirts

Since putting clothes over your head increases the risk of hitting your nose, it may be helpful to wear button-down shirts or hoodies for at least the first few days after rhinoplasty surgery.

Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

While the nose is still tender, direct sunlight can cause discoloration and should be avoided. If you go out in the sun, it is important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect yourself.
